gitness v0.1.0

Dev tools

Harness Open Source (Gitness) — a self-hosted Git platform with pull requests, built-in CI/CD pipelines, artifact registries and web IDE, all in one lightweight binary. Deployed as a single host-networked Nomad service.

nomad-pack run gitness --registry nomploy
…or one line (add registry + run)
curl -fsSL https://packs.nomploy.com/install.sh | sh -s -- gitness

Needs nomad-pack on PATH. The script only adds the nomploy registry and runs this pack.

Back up this pack

This pack stores data in one Docker named volume: gitness_data

restic

# Run on the node hosting this pack. Point restic at your repo first:
# export RESTIC_REPOSITORY="s3:https://<account>.r2.cloudflarestorage.com/<bucket>"
# export RESTIC_PASSWORD="<repo-password>"
# export AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=<key> AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=<secret>
restic backup \
  /var/lib/docker/volumes/gitness_data/_data

rclone (sync to S3/R2)

rclone sync /var/lib/docker/volumes/gitness_data/_data backup:<bucket>/gitness_data

Paths assume the default Docker volume location (/var/lib/docker/volumes). Restore by stopping the job, restoring files into the same volume, and re-running the pack.

gitness

Harness Open Source (formerly Gitness) is a self-hosted, all-in-one development platform: Git repository hosting with pull requests and code review, built-in CI/CD pipelines, artifact registries, a web IDE and more — all shipped as a single lightweight binary with an embedded database. A lean alternative to running Gitea + a separate CI system.

This pack runs it as a single host-networked Nomad service.

Deploy

nomad-pack run gitness --registry=nomploy

Open http://<node-ip>:3000 and create the admin account.

Configuration

Variable Default Description
image harness/harness:latest Container image (pin a tag in production).
port 3000 Host port for the web UI / API.
ssh_port 3022 Host port for Git over SSH.
data_volume gitness_data Volume for the database and repositories (/data).
docker_sock /var/run/docker.sock Docker socket for CI/CD; set "" to disable pipelines.
resources 1000 MHz / 1024 MB CPU and memory for the task.

Note: Mounting the Docker socket lets pipelines start containers directly on the host — grant it only on nodes you trust. Set docker_sock="" to run Gitness purely as a Git host without CI.

The database and repositories persist in data_volume.
